New routine at Pilates today. Masks to be worn while waiting in reception, then we must all wash our hands. Careful distancing during the class, masks off and placed inside a ziplock bag, and then we are all given a drop of aromatic oil to inhale from cupped hands. After an hour of improving our pelvic floors, we wipe down the reformer beds with sanitiser. Masks on again to leave the building. Shower and hair wash when I get home. I’m feeling very clean!

Today my close friend texted that her dad had passed away. I cried like I hadn't done in a long time. We have been friends for almost 12 years now. We both migrated to Sydney from the same German town. We both married Australians and we both have small children similar in age. Meeting with her, talking in my mother tongue always feels like a piece of home ("Heimat"). She doesn't have permission to travel back for the funeral yet. Even if she is allowed to go, it is a difficult decision to make with the restrictions in place - a cap on incoming overseas passengers, the 14 day hotel quarantine that is required on return and needs to be paid, the pressure it puts on her family and her two young children here while she is away. I feel for her and her family. It is a reminder of how much I miss my mum and my sister, how sad it makes me not knowing when I will see them again, how much my children miss their Oma who was supposed to visit us for July and August. I am trying to be hopeful but it is harder on a day like today.

Rainy days evoke memories of my childhood days when I used to play in puddles of water on the street. On my way home from school, I would dip a foot or both but always made sure my feet were clean when I get home to my grandmother. The rainy days of late, has stirred me to write something about raindrops - those droplets of water falling from the sky. Raindrops On A Leaf Raindrops ran in rivulets Down the slender leaf so green Then bewitching tiny droplets, Slowly forming can be seen. Rain ceased, the storm passed. Little droplets sitting still Dancing, jiggling then at last On the ground they fell. With each drop came snippet Of memories from the past. Treasured and forever etched In my mind and in my heart.

Birthday celebrations are one of those events being axed in number of invitees due to covid restriction. Somehow there should be a way to make your day very special with the presence of loved ones. I dressed up for the occasion; jumped on the train, and on foot to the main venue, I went. The sky was threatening and looking depressed. I normally don't go out on this kind of weather, but words were assured when I accepted the invite. Lucky, it wasn't that chilly. When I arrived at Broadway, I stopped by a florist and grabbed a nicely packed flower arrangement of pink Waratahs and pastel Roses with a conglomerate of cute colourful sprays. I had the card ready to hand in to the celebrant. I'm not very good at gift buying so money was more convenient for me to give. My friends were there already few minutes ahead of me. They're sitting down on someone's round kitchen table (wink); the engaged couple and the fiance's mother. We all came from different directions outside the city. The original plan was to dine in a restaurant, go for a leisurely stroll, have coffee and more catching-up. The unpredictable weather didn't augur well. Of course I was introduced to Lara, Matt's mother who looks very young and attractive. I found her very friendly too. I'm kind of the fiancee's adopted mother. We all settled in for a Japanese cuisine with healthy options to be had. I ordered a nice warm soupy Ramen! I shun the dessert. The remainder of my day was spent at home after we parted. The big rain came tumbling down the moment I got home. Call that "Showers of Blessing" for the birthday girl. Happy 29th Birthday Irene. Wish you many happy returns of the day!
