My name is Yameena Mubarak and I am from Sydney, NSW. I am 12 years old, in year 7 and St George Girls High School. When we were told that it was recommended to stay at home because of COVID-19, at first I was excited. This meant I could sleep in and wake up at 8 am and still be at my desk on time, it was rainbows and unicorns for, like a week, but my envision of this started to fade away. I was missing my friends and teachers, it's not fun being surrounded by 2 siblings for practically 24 hours. My parents were also not really meant to be teachers. Thank god Australia was able to contain COVID-19, then students in NSW would be allowed to attend school once a week, I was super excited to see my friends again, it's much better than facetiming! Quarantine also taught me some stuff, so it wasn't an all bad experience. Quarantine showed me my passion for baking, I love baking now, I think majority of my time other than school work during quarantine is cooking. This has been an overwhelming and very interesting experience, that I'll never forget. It's definitely one of the weirdest times of my life, and staying at home is definitely not what I thought I'd be doing today. It's all cool because I just have to keep in mind that, I'm doing this for the betterment of myself and everyone else, but I still can't to be out and about again!

My name is Yameena Mubarak and I'm from Sydney, NSW. I am 12 and I'm in year 7 at St George Girls High School. When COVID-19 hit we were all recommended to stay home and home school, and as so, I did it as well. At first I was excited to homeschool as that meant I could sleep in and still be at my desk on time, but really it didn't seem as fun as I envisioned. I couldn't physically see my friends or ask my teachers for help and get an answer/explanation I would get if I were at school. What kept me motivated to put up with this was that, I'm doing it for the better by staying at home. I miss my friends a lot more than I expected which meant facetiming each other everyday. It's not as good as physically seeing them, but that's the best for now. Since Australia is managing to decrease the number of COVID-19 cases, children would start going back to school once a week. I was super excited about this as I would get to see my friends and my teachers, as my parents weren't really meant to be teachers. Quarantine taught my a few things as well, I learned that I had a huge passion for cooking, I baked so many things during quarantine I can't even count. It also taught me how annoying my siblings are, and I'm not even kidding they are so annoying. This has been an overall interesting and overwhelming experience, but I can't wait for it to be over
