2020 started full of hope. A new year of opportunity, plans waiting to happen. Then the whispers started about a virus, whispers that grew so loud that they become a deafening roar that was heard across the world. Pandemic. A word many had never heard that was now part of our everyday vocabulary. For me, as a teacher, it turned my world on it's head. At school with only a few children, we pivoted, our face-to-face connections with students became a flurry of phone calls, Zooms and packs-to-go as we worked to keep the learning alive. I felt like I was in a state of suspended animation while we waited to see what each day would bring. My consternation was offset by the peace of isolation at home, a time to embrace the quiet and treasure my family.
Now, as life begins to return to 'normal', I will hold on to the lessons of these past few months and use them to shape a fresh outlook on life.
