Dear Future Reader,
My name is George F. I’m an 11 year old Year Six student at Glenbrook Public School. I am writing to contemplate the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020.
This period of time was long and hard. I deeply hope that in the future there will be no time like this time. Every night on the news, Peter Overton would always address the watchers with “Good evening. There have been more cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours…” It was scary. People acted as if it was the apocalypse and most of the toilet paper was gone within 48 hours. There was a long, tedious mid-pandemic lockdown where people were not allowed to leave their homes unless it was for exercise or essential shopping. So many people were dying, and it was just really, really, really awful…
To start with, nobody knew what COVID-19 was or what it could become. The WHO (World Health Organisation) released a social media post declaring that no human transmission had been detected. And then the outbreak started. It started in a Wuhan wet market (or so we’ve been told) and from there it spread like wildfire, all around the world so, so fast…
The shops were just crazy. You could not walk in or out of the shops without bumping into somebody, and if you managed to make it inside, there would be almost nothing left for anybody to buy. And people just HOARDED the toilet paper. You could not leave your house unless you were going shopping or you were out for exercise so there wasn’t much to look forward to…
103 deaths a couple of days ago. And it's not over yet...
